He crashed hard on Stage 1, but Tony Martin proved that he's not the World Champion at time trialing for nothing. He knocked out the 33 km course at what we in the metrically starved USA would call 33.7 mph. Which is pretty quick.
Not too far behind was the Froome-Dog.
And far behind was pretty much everyone else. Although I was happy to see Kwiatkowski up in 5th and doing enough to take back the White Jersey from Quintanna.
You might think that on a time trial stage, Mark Cavendish might be able to stay out of the headlines for one day. It was not to be however, as some spectator(s?) threw urine at him. Classy. I know some people may have been upset about Tom Veelers' crash yesterday, but I think that the kind of treatment usually reserved for the appearance of Meatloaf at a music festival is a bit harsh.
Onto those scores and if you are Den, then you did pretty well today. If you are the Evil Dr Chan, then you are still doing nicely overall.
More sprinting tomorrow. Will it be Cav, Kittel, Greipel, Schleck? Or someone else? Oh look, the Stage starts in Fougères - I went there once for a training course on macrolide analysis. That was a thrilling couple of days I can tell you. On the plus side, I did have some nice cheese and we took a trip to today's finishing spot at Mont-Saint-Michel which was quite pleasant, if a little full of tacky souvenir shops.
