FTDF 2016 Stage 1 - Cav Keeps Kittel Contained

It's on! Without a prologue this year, the big sprinters have been eying Stage 1 for a while. Mark Cavendish has had a pretty low-key season so far, eschewing the road in favor of securing an Olympic spot on the track with team GB. He's still got it though, he got the better of Kittel and Sagan to win the stage and take his first Yellow Jersey.

Now all he needs to complete his trophy cabinet is that gold medal from Rio. He can add it to his World Championship road and track medals, Giro, Vuelta and Tour points trophies, Giro and Vuelta leaders jerseys and of course, his trophy wife.

Usually, Stage 1 of the Tour means crashes. And although mass carnage was avoided, today was no exception. The highest profile deck-hitter was El Pistolero himself, Alberto Contador. He finished in the bunch, but it looks like he lost a fair amount of skin. Not to mention the holes he made in his jersey, and the keen eyed amongst you will also notice that he likes to wear his lucky black T-shirt underneath.

I hear its a classic Cradle of Filth T-shirt, he's a big fan.

In Pance-land, the early glory goes to Drew with a Sagan-Cav combo, with the Bile Beans doing fair enough and the Kloefekappers seemingly waiting for the Mountains.

Stage 2 is a lumpier proposition. I'm expecting Sagan to be up there. Cav, Kittel and Greipel, not so much.
