May 6th, it's time to choose......

Apparently there's some sort of election thing going on in the UK today and the nation will decide who's going to be running the country for the next five years. A tricky choice for sure, but not as tricky as who's going to be in your fantasy Giro line-up. Whereas you only get to pick one candidate on your ballot paper, in the world of fantasy cycling there are nine choices to be made from 198 riders.

So, Velogames entries are now open and I've just picked my team for this year's race. On paper they look like a formidable squad of heavy hitters, but experience tells me that most of them will probably crash-out or get busted for drugs long before the race finishes in Verona.

I've also set up the Tour De Pance minileague, which you should sign your team up to once you've got 'em picked. Maybe you could also use the comments box to tell folks you're playing and what your team is called.

It has been traditional for people to give me £1 per team to go towards a cash prize possibly approaching double figures for the top team. I can see collecting £1 off everyone might be a bit of a hassle, so it looks like it will just be for the glory of victory this year........although if the winner didn't play last year, I might award them a copy of that picture from the 2009 Giro podium with that girl who forgot her underwear.
