Fantasy Giro Weekend Roundup

It’s a rest day today, which is just as well as I seem to have fallen a bit behind over the weekend.   Now I’m back at work though, so I have plenty of time to get blogging without weekend distractions such as small children, hedges, beer and Dr. Who.

So let’s get down to business and see what transpired at the Giro over the weekend.  Saturday should have been an epic spectacle to watch on the TV, but the weather had other ideas.  They had to cut out the Sestriere climb and they had trouble with the motorbikes and helicopters and whatnot.  When I tried to watch I was treated to some highlights from the day before and some shots of bedraggled spectators.  The peloton was out there somewhere though and eventually Mauro Santamborgio appeared from the gloom to take the stage.

Not far behind was Vincenzo Nibali, who tightened his grip on the Pink Jersey a little bit more and although the race had been going well for him, he probably wasn't too delighted to be starting another wet and shortened stage on Sunday.  So more epic goings on in the Alps and this time it was snowing at the top as Giovanni Visconti came over the line

Meanwhile, other bicycle races have been occurring around the world.  Here in the USA, we had the Tour of California.  I can’t be bothered with it, but I did notice that Tejay Van Garderen won and he’s been talking about his full package.

Sky might not be the only one's with some tough leadership choices at the Tour. Tejay is going well for BMC and Evans isn’t getting any younger, he certainly doesn’t look like he’s going to get the better of Nibali at the Giro.

Over in France, they had Paris-Arras, which I must admit I’ve never heard of.  I mention it because local, (to me) boy Joey Roskopf won and I know his dad - kenbikelaw.com for all your bikelaw needs people.

The rest day today should give everyone a much needed rest, a break from the rain and maybe even get their shoes dried out by stuffing them with some old newspaper.

Stage 16 looks like another toughie.  It will probably rain too.
