Giro 2017 Stage 16 - Nibali Touches Italian Hearts; Dumoulin Touches Cloth

I don't know if any of you have ever read 'A Rough Ride'. It's a good book, but apart from the somewhat predictable tales of drug use in the peloton, there's one section that really stuck with me. Picture the scene....... It's 1987 and young Paul Kimmage is at some early season race and riding behind Greg LeMond. Greg has shit running out of his shorts and down his legs, but he won't quit the race as he needs the training before the TDF. So no broom wagon for Greg, but maybe he could have used this.

As Billy Ocean said, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" and today on the toughest day of the race, Tom Dumoulin found that Mr. Brown was at the door, and he had to get going at the side of the road. There don't seem to be many gentlemen left in the peloton these days, so while Tom was making gravy at the side of the road the rest of them were off up the road. At the end of the stage, Nibali gave the Italians their first win of the race ahead of Spanish bloke Landa.

He may have had to go number 2, but that thanks to some strong riding after dropping some weight before the final climb, Tommy D is still number 1.

A good day in them thar hills for them thar Smugblokes.

And Enrico 666 take over the top spot in the overall. As we enter the final stages of the race, it's still very close, for all I know, the Bile Beans could still finish dead last.

Stage 17 is no Stage 16, but still no picnic. I hope Tom Dumoulin gets himself some Imodium before the start. If you are in York and are suffering from diarrhea, why not visit Fulford Pharmacy? Conveniently located in Broadway Post Office.
