Fabian Cancellara is always a good bet for the TDF prologue, so good in fact that I won a whole £4 when he smashed everyone else to take the win. It's a shame then that I didn't pick him for my team, but I thought he was a bit too pricey - silly me.
In second spot was Tony Martin. Tony Martin the German cyclist that is.
Not Tony Martin the burglar-killing Norfolk farmer, Daily Mail hero and general all-round nut-job.
Lance Armstrong did alright to finish in 4th and make the filling in a British sandwich, just behind David Millar and ahead of newly jerseyed British RR champ, Geraint Thomas, while race favourite Alberto Contador was down in 6th. Biggest surprise of the day though, was not a good ride, but the surprisingly crap ride from Bradley Wiggins. He took the risk of an early start in an attempt to avoid the rain, but that still doesn't explain how he managed to finish 56 seconds down on Cancellara in 77th place. He still wasn't as bad as Andy Schleck though, who lost 1:09 to Fabian.
The Velogames scoring update was almost as quick as Fabian's prologue. So we've got some scores to look at already. Not that I want to look at them too closely, as it's still very early day's and my team isn't doing so well.
In off-the-bike developments, Floyd Landis, notorious liar or hard done-by hero, depending on your point of view, continues to dish the dirt.
In an
article in the Wall Street Journal, timed nicely to put the shits up Lance a day before the Tour starts, he's made all manner of interesting allegations. It looks like the net could be closing in on Mr. Armstrong.
There's tales of blood bags and testosterone patches, not to mention parties with cocaine and strippers. And allegations that US Postal team bikes were sold to fund the team's doping program. Although, it seems Floyd isn't above selling a bike on Craigslist himself when he needs some cash.
Stage 1 tomorrow then, and most likely a day for the sprinters. A wise sprinting investment can make or break a Fantasy team. There's nothing worse than spending a load of Velocredits on someone who under performs, or just crashes. The roads are some of the same ones that caused all that trouble on
stage 3 of the Giro, but a turn away from the coast may mean that the riders won't have as much wind tomorrow.
well, i missed the cutoff because i was deep in the backwoods with no web connection, but here's the team i would have picked. And i promise this was chosen before reading the prologue results.
ReplyDeleteAlberto CONTADOR
Ivan BASSO
Thor HUSHOVD
Fabian CANCELLARA
Wesley SULZBERGER
Bram TANKINK
Geraint THOMAS
Roman KREUZIGER
Chris Anker SÖRENSEN
By my reckoning that gives me 351 points.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a good start, but generally i've always done my best after a bad start. It's all looking a bit Giro for me!
You were only in the Hebrides you know. I'm sure they have computers and that these days. Still, if you want to continue to calculate your scores I guess you can tag along.
