It was a rest day today, but I’ve still got the small matter of yesterday’s stage to deal with. So let’s do this thing....
One man who you wanted on your Fantasy Team last year was Philippe Gilbert. He won shed-loads of races, and earned plenty of points for anyone that picked him. This year things haven’t gone so well for Pip, and despite plugging away all season, it’s taken him until now to get his first win.
Being the well travelled jet-setter that I am, I’ve actually been up the Montjuic climb in Barcelona where the finish was. Not on a bike mind, but I remember thinking it was a bit steep as I walked up, it’s not that long though...... there were also a lot of stray cats around, and I had a bit of a hangover from drinking too much Estrella Damm, but I digress.
Anyhooze, so Gilbert won, and just behind was J-Rod. They had a bit of a gap over the rest, so J-Rod got himself a few more seconds over his rivals, most notably the Froome-dog, who looked to be suffering a bit, and finished towards the back of the main group.
And so, the continuing failure of Quintana and Seeldrayers to do very much, means that the Bile Beans now languish in fourth place. While I reckon the Rouleurs should be comfortable on top for a while.
