Fantasy Vuleta Stages 14-16: Mountain Mayhem

As we head into the second rest day, it occurs to me that it is once again time to dust off the cobwebs and tend to the old blog.  So, when last we met, I was telling you that mountains were on the way.  I should have said mountains and rain were on the way, as over the weekend the rain in Spain did not stay mainly on the plains....

Stage 14 was cold and wet.  Too cold and wet for Ivan Basso, who was among the riders to quit the race in a shivering mess. He should have taken a leaf out of old man Horner's book and put on his leg-warmers.

Win for the day went to Daniele Ratto.  Top score to those Red Devlis.

Stage 15, more cold, more hills.  Alexandre Geniez took the stage, while behind him Nibali kept his GC rivals in check.

The Scibstiques took the honours for the day.

Stage 16 was won by possibly the only good pick I made for the Bile Beans, as Warren Burguil chalked-up his second stage win.  He looks almost as pleased as I was.

It was all going behind him though, as Nibali faded on the final climb, letting old man Horner get within 28 seconds of his lead.  Despite my stage winner, the Bile Beans still didn't make it to the top of the table for the day.

And so as we are head into the last week of the race, Drew is still atop the league and looking like he might be able to hang on.  It's certainly a good performance from someone who is lucky to scrape into the top half of the league.  I can only conclude that he's been taking some kind of performance enhancing substances. Or that now he's on the dole, he just had more time to pick his team.

Fantasy Vuelta Stages 12&13: Wins for Pip and Wazza

Late again Vestan!  This time I have an excuse though, some outrageous copyright infringement has come to my attention! As I was flicking through the channels on the telly-box, I noticed this on channel 1256 (I live in the USA, so that's only about half-way through the numbers).

Any copyright lawyers out there? I think I have a case and if can can screw them for a couple of million, I won't have to waste my time with this half-arsed blog anymore.  Either that, or the money will allow me to quit my job and devote my time to my real passion in life - my half-arsed blog.......... So, Yay for Phillipe Gilbert! He finally got a win in his fetching World Champion costume on Stage 12.  Pip Pipped Eddy Boz-Higgles to the line to take the win.

Drew scored a 1-2 on Stage 12. Points aplenty for him. The Charmers didn't do too bad either.

Stage 13 today and it was lucky for the ten-man break that managed to keep the peloton at bay.  There could be only one winner though and it was this guy, Warren Barguil who timed it right in the last Km.

So finally some good news for the Bile Beans, who were well represented in the break. I'm crossing my fingers for some points, but till those scores are up we'll have to skip to the overall after stage 12.  Is there no end to Drew's reign of terror at the top of the League? It seems not. The Bile beans are shit aren't they?

The weekend approaches and that means more mountains for our viewing pleasure.  It's still tight at the top of the GC, so we can expect some fun and games as the big-boys fight it.
